Laundry room makeover

Its been a while! We've been lucky enough to travel lately and treat ourselves to an amazing vacation. Now that we're back home, we've started some projects again.

Laundry rooms usually get the short end of the stick. I've never had one that was very helpful, used space efficiently, or looked anything but pathetic. Ours was no exception.

A little depressing, right?

I'm okay with having the laundry in a closet. It doesn't really bother me, but having absolutely no storage drove me insane. That shelf was just sad.

Jerrod asked for an idea of what I wanted:

Basically 2 cabinets with shelves in between. One shelf tall enough for laundry detergent. That was my only specification. So, true to Jerrod form, I came home to a surprise :) who knew I'd be so excited about SHELVES. Hah!

A little paint, and ta-da! Now all that's left is painting the closet doors. Not looking forward to that!

And because I like before and afters:

Organic shingles

Hey, wanna know the worst thing to shingle your roof in?! Ding, ding, ding!!! You've guessed it! Organic shingles!

The previous owners might as well have shingled the garage roof with toast. Seriously. Look at this...
That crusty, shriveled up part? Yeah, that's the part of the shingle that was exposed.

Luckily, this was only on the garage and I can only assume that they immediately realized the mistake they made and got their money back on the actual house roof, ASAP. So the only part left for us was the garage roof, which we knew about when we bought it.

Jerrod can now check "successfully roofing" off his list. This guy seriously does everything. So proud of him and I'm always amazed at his determination. He did such a great job!

... I'm speechless.

Between my amazing parents who came to visit and volunteered to weed my yard on THEIR vacation (which turned into a jungle while we were on our vacation) and my ninja of a husband... Who did all of this in a DAY while I was at work today... I'm speechless. I couldn't have done it without you guys. Thanks for making my yard pretty! I'm pretty speechless at the moment and pretty lucky, needless to say.

Home

I did a LOT around the house this weekend, but they were all things that make our house feel like home. Our home... not a time-warp-to-the-90's home. Just getting around to a few of the details that make me happy :)

The man cave

Please note the posters in the man cave... They're quite amazing.

This started out completely unfinished and maybe had half a wall of drywall. Jerrod has insulated, drywalled, mudded, ripped out a flight of stairs, primed, and now started to paint his garage. He's been working his butt off and I'm so proud of him.

New bathroom

We "finished" the basement a few months ago, but there were still two areas that needed work: the basement bathroom and the stairway. I honestly needed a little break from painting trim, but now I'm back at it.

I finished up everything in the basement except for the stair case... that'll be a bigger project for another weekend. The bathroom is pretty big, which is nice, but it was also kind of depressing with the horrible 90's tile. Here's a little reminder of where it started...

This is after with the new floor, new paint, painted trim, and new hardware.

Yay, grass!

Haha, oh I never thought I'd be excited about grass growing in our yard, but our backyard (although small) was completely covered in tarp and topped with dirt and mulch. Add dogs to the mix... It's been a bit of a messy nightmare.

It's getting there :)
